Using EMDR and trauma-informed care, I specialize in complex trauma, first responder support, grief, and chronic pain. Life feels less reactive and more intentional. I approach therapy with curiosity, not judgment.

About Kat:

If you feel stuck, overwhelmed, or unseen and want a steady, supportive space to better understand yourself and your relationships, you’re not alone. I work with adults in Fresno and across California who are navigating emotional overwhelm, grief and loss, repeating patterns that no longer work, boundary guilt and people-pleasing, and harsh self-talk.

Many of my clients are open to emotional exploration, collaboration, and building change through feeling understood rather than being rushed to solutions. I also work with couples, first responders, and disaster relief workers who carry the weight of trauma and need specialized support. People need to feel safe, seen, and accepted in order to heal, especially in the places where they’ve learned to hide or be hard on themselves.

In our work together, you’ll find a space where you feel genuinely seen and accepted. I’m an Associate Clinical Social Worker (ACSW), California Registration #114824, with a Master of Science in Social Work from the University of Denver and extensive experience as a Medical Social Worker in hospice and end-of-life care. I’m EMDR-trained and actively working toward EMDR Certification, and I specialize in using EMDR for complex trauma, survivors of sexual trauma, chronic pain, and complicated grief.

Change tends to happen when people feel emotionally safe enough to slow down, be honest, and explore what’s happening beneath the surface without fear of judgment. My role is to offer a steady, attuned presence while helping you make sense of your emotions, patterns, and inner narratives, and gently challenge what no longer serves you.

I work deeply with adults navigating trauma, first responders and disaster relief workers, couples where trauma or attachment wounds are affecting the relationship, and individuals managing chronic pain or complicated grief. Together, we address emotional overwhelm and feeling stuck, grief and loss (including changes, endings, or unresolved grief), repeating patterns, boundary guilt and people-pleasing, and harsh self-talk and unhelpful thought patterns.

I specialize in helping adults with complex relational trauma, survivors of sexual trauma, and those seeking EMDR for deeper healing. Whether you’re processing trauma, strengthening your relationship as a couple, or managing chronic pain or grief, I approach therapy with curiosity, not judgment.

My approach is warm, grounded, curious, relational, and adaptive. I’m relational, emotionally attuned, and present, and I feel most in my element when therapy is fluid, adjusting depth and structure as needed. I recognize the impact of culture, identity, and systemic influences on emotional well-being and relationships.

As a woman of color, I approach therapy with sensitivity to these dynamics. I strive to create a space where you feel seen not only as an individual, but within the broader contexts that shape who you are. What I consistently help people move toward is greater self-understanding, self-compassion, and the ability to respond to their lives and relationships with more clarity, confidence, and choice.

When therapy is working, life feels less reactive and more intentional. You’ll relate to yourself and others with greater clarity, compassion, and confidence, and feel more aligned with how you want to live. You’ll feel genuinely seen and accepted. Through my hospice and end-of-life care background, I bring deep understanding of grief, loss, life transitions, and the ability to sit with pain without rushing to fix it.

Common Questions About Working With Kat

I use a person-centered, trauma-informed approach that combines EMDR, strengths-based work, and relational therapy. My style is warm, grounded, curious, relational, and adaptive. I’m relational, emotionally attuned, and present, and I feel most in my element when therapy is fluid, adjusting depth and structure as needed.

I approach therapy with curiosity, not judgment. Change tends to happen when people feel emotionally safe enough to slow down, be honest, and explore what’s happening beneath the surface without fear of judgment
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a type of therapy that helps you safely process difficult experiences and memories so they lose their emotional intensity. It’s especially effective for trauma, grief, anxiety, and overwhelming emotions. EMDR works with your brain and nervous system’s natural healing processes, helping you feel more grounded, less reactive, and able to move forward with greater ease. We go at a pace that feels right for you, and you stay in control throughout the process.
Yes! I specialize in working with first responders and disaster relief workers who carry the weight of trauma from their work. I understand the unique stressors you face and the toll it takes on your mental health and relationships. I use EMDR and trauma-informed approaches to help you process critical incidents, manage emotional overwhelm, and build resilience. You don’t have to explain what others don’t see. I create a space where you feel genuinely seen and accepted.
Yes! I use EMDR for chronic pain management, which is an evidence-based application of EMDR therapy. Chronic pain often has emotional and traumatic components, and EMDR can help you process the experiences connected to your pain and reduce its intensity. Through my hospice and end-of-life care background, I understand the intersection of pain, grief, and quality of life, and I approach chronic pain with compassion and curiosity.
Yes! I work with couples who are navigating relationship challenges, communication breakdowns, grief or loss, or repeating patterns that create distance or conflict. I also work with couples where trauma or attachment wounds are affecting the relationship. I help couples understand patterns, improve communication, rebuild trust, and strengthen emotional connection. I integrate EMDR when one or both partners need trauma processing alongside relationship work.

My approach helps couples feel more connected, understand each other more deeply, and build healthier patterns of relating. Whether you’re navigating conflict, disconnection, or the impact of past trauma on your relationship, I can help.
Yes! Grief and loss is one of my primary specialties. Through my experience as a Medical Social Worker in hospice and end-of-life care, I bring deep understanding of grief, loss, life transitions, and complicated grief. I understand that grief isn’t just about death. It’s about changes, endings, unresolved grief, and the loss of relationships, roles, or versions of yourself. I’m comfortable sitting with pain without rushing to fix it, and I help you honor your grief while building self-compassion.
We begin with an initial consultation where we discuss your needs, goals, and concerns. This is about getting to know each other and building trust. After that, we collaboratively develop a personalized care plan. Regular sessions will include a variety of interventions based on what you need, from EMDR processing to emotional support, practical coping strategies, and skill-building. I maintain open communication throughout and regularly reassess your progress to ensure our work stays aligned with your goals.
It varies based on what you’re working through and your goals. Some people find relief in a few months, while others benefit from longer-term support. EMDR can sometimes produce faster results for trauma processing than traditional talk therapy, but everyone’s healing timeline is unique. We’ll regularly check in on your progress and adjust our approach as needed. Therapy is about supporting you at the pace that’s right for your journey.
Yes, I accept most major insurance plans including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and others. You can view all accepted insurance here. I also accept cash paying clients.
Yes! Cash paying gives us more freedom in our sessions. They can last longer. It’s especially useful for relationship and marriage sessions that way there is more time for everyone to get the most out of the sessions.
The therapeutic relationship is crucial to healing. I offer a free 10 minute consultation where we can talk about what you’re looking for, I can share more about how I work, and we can both get a sense of whether we’d be a good match. There’s no pressure or commitment. It’s simply a conversation to help you make the best decision for yourself.
That’s completely understandable and very common. Starting therapy takes courage. My priority is creating a safe, affirming space where you feel comfortable being yourself. We’ll move at your pace, and you’re in control of what you share and when. Many clients tell me they feel surprisingly at ease after our first conversation. The free consultation is a great low-pressure way to see if therapy with me feels right for you.
