I help you move from fear to freedom, from no understanding to insight and a new path, and from overwhelmed to peace. I’m not asking you to climb the mountain. We’re looking for little shifts in perception, thinking, and choices that will get you over the mountain to where you choose to go.
– Monica Ferraro

About Monica:

If you feel overwhelmed, suddenly triggered by life-changing events that are bringing up the past, or you’re not understanding why you keep using unhealthy coping mechanisms, you’re not alone. I work with women in Fresno and across California at all life stages, from young college adults to mothers who are married, divorced, or widowed with children, to young seniors 60+.

I also work with teens 15+ and couples. My clients often feel stuck in patterns they can’t break, carrying trauma they’ve never fully processed, or confused about why past experiences keep showing up in their present. The then and there is in the here and now until you process it. They’re looking for a therapist who will help them understand themselves, find insight, and create real change.

In our work together, you’ll find a space where you can explore underlying patterns, understand how the past is affecting the present, and discover the insights that lead to a more peaceful way of being in the world. I’m an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist (AMFT), California Registration #130104, and I’m EMDR Certified (not just trained, which means an additional year of specialized training).

I’m currently training to become an EMDR Consultant. I love the brain and all things neuroscience, and I educate my clients on how their subconscious mind impacts their physiology, thinking, actions, and coping mechanisms. I believe neuroplasticity and the desire for change are the fuel you need to find solutions for a new direction in life. I’m a therapist who is interested in getting to the root of present-day challenges, reactions, and triggers rooted in the past, your family of origin, and attachment.

I work deeply with women, teens 15+, young adults, adults, and couples who are motivated and ready to commit to making change. Together, we address trauma (childhood trauma, sexual trauma, adult trauma like rape or divorce), overwhelming anxiety, lingering grief that creates seasons of depression, relationship patterns, parenting challenges, ADHD, and bipolar disorder.

I specialize in helping people move from fear to freedom, no understanding to insight and a new path, overwhelmed to peace, and stuck to new adventures. Whether you’re processing trauma with EMDR, working on your relationship as a couple, or trying to understand patterns rooted in your family of origin, you don’t have to keep being tired of being tired. When you’re ready to commit to change, I’m ready to help you process the past with new insights and understanding.

My approach is warm, curious, gentle, relational, insightful, and adaptive. I’m curious, reflective, and exploratory, adjusting depth and structure as needed because therapy isn’t one-size-fits-all. I’m not asking you to climb the mountain. We are looking for “little shifts” in perception, thinking, and choices that will get you over the mountain to where you choose to go.

Change happens when you’re motivated and courageous enough to face your fear straight on while feeling safe because you trust me and know I care for you and am the encourager of your choice to change. We set three goals for therapy, check in regularly, and measure your progress so you can see how far you’ve come from when you first walked in.

What I consistently help people move toward is connecting insight to real-life change. You’ll move from fear to freedom, from no understanding to insight and a new path, from overwhelmed to peace, and from stuck to new adventures. You’ll feel more aligned and confident moving forward, recognizing your change and celebrating the small shifts in perception, thinking, and choices that change old patterns. I love the miracles and magic that happen in EMDR reprocessing. It is truly life-changing.

Not sure if we’re the right fit? Let’s talk.

Monica’s Approach to Therapy

Monica’s therapeutic approach centers on helping you understand yourself through insight, neuroscience, and processing the past so you can move forward with confidence and peace. Change happens when you’re motivated and courageous enough to face your fear while feeling safe because you trust your therapist and know they care.
Neuroscience & Neuroplasticity
Monica loves the brain and all things neuroscience. She educates clients on how the brain works, how trauma affects the nervous system, and how neuroplasticity (your brain’s ability to change) makes transformation possible. You’ll learn about your subconscious mind, how it impacts your physiology, thinking, actions, and coping mechanisms, and how to work with your brain, not against it. This isn’t just therapy, it’s brain-based healing that gives you tools for life. Understanding how you work is the first step to changing how you work.
EMDR Certified & Consultant-in-Training
Monica is EMDR Certified, which means she completed an additional year of specialized training beyond basic EMDR certification. She’s currently training to become an EMDR Consultant, the highest level of EMDR training. EMDR helps you process trauma, grief, phobias, and overwhelming experiences so they no longer have the same emotional intensity. Monica loves the miracles and magic that happen in EMDR reprocessing. It is truly life-changing for the majority of her clients. Whether you’re processing childhood trauma, sexual trauma, divorce, lingering grief, or nightmares, EMDR can help you move from fear to freedom.
Family of Origin & Attachment Work
Many of your present-day challenges, reactions, and triggers are rooted in your family of origin (FOO) and early attachment patterns. Monica helps you explore underlying patterns, meaning, and emotional themes from your past that are still affecting you today. The then and there is in the here and now until you process it. By understanding how your childhood experiences shaped your beliefs, coping mechanisms, and relationship patterns, you gain insight that reframes how you understand yourself. This insight is what creates lasting change.
“Little Shifts” Philosophy
Monica doesn’t ask you to climb the mountain overnight. We are looking for “little shifts” in perception, thinking, and choices that will get you over the mountain to where you choose to go. You’ll set three specific goals for therapy, and Monica will check in regularly and measure your progress using a scale so you can see how far you’ve come. You’ll celebrate small shifts in perception, thinking, and choices that change old patterns. Change happens one little shift at a time, and those shifts add up to transformation.

Common Questions About Working With Monica

I use a neuroscience-based, insight-focused approach that combines EMDR, family of origin work, and attachment-based therapy. I’m EMDR Certified (not just trained, which is an additional year of specialized training) and currently training to become an EMDR Consultant.

My style is warm, curious, reflective, and adaptive. I love neuroscience and neuroplasticity, and I educate my clients on how their brain works so they can understand themselves more clearly. Yes! I work with teens ages 15 and up. I do not work with children under 15. My approach is effective with older teens and young adults who are experiencing anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, relationship challenges, ADHD, or family conflict. I also work with parents who need support and guidance in understanding their teen’s needs and strengthening family dynamics.
Yes! I specialize in couples counseling using concepts from Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), the Gottman Method, and the Developmental Model. I help couples improve communication, rebuild trust, navigate conflict, and strengthen their emotional connection.

Whether you’re facing challenges related to trauma affecting your relationship, parenting disagreements, or recurring patterns, I can help you build a healthier, more connected partnership.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing) is a type of therapy that helps you process difficult experiences and memories so they no longer have the same emotional intensity. It’s especially effective for trauma, anxiety, and relationship patterns rooted in past experiences. EMDR works with your brain’s natural healing processes, helping you feel steadier, calmer, and less reactive. Think of it as helping you organize the library of your history so you’re no longer tripping over the books. We go at a pace that feels right for you.
I’m passionate about neuroscience and how the brain works, and I educate my clients so they can understand themselves more clearly. I’m EMDR Certified (not just trained) and training to become an EMDR Consultant, which is the highest level of EMDR training. I focus on getting to the root of present-day challenges by exploring your family of origin and attachment patterns.

I believe in “little shifts” rather than overnight transformations. I’m not asking you to climb the mountain. We are looking for “little shifts” in perception, thinking, and choices that will get you over the mountain to where you choose to go. We set three specific goals, measure your progress, and celebrate your growth.
It depends on your goals and what you’re working through. Some people find relief in a few months, especially with focused trauma processing using EMDR. Others benefit from longer-term support when addressing complex trauma, deep family patterns, or multiple concerns. I work collaboratively with you to regularly assess your progress and adjust our approach as needed. The timeline is always based on your unique needs and goals, and you remain in control of your healing journey.
Yes, I accept most major insurance plans including Aetna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Cigna, and others. You can view all accepted insurance here. I also accept cash paying clients.
Yes! Cash paying gives us more freedom in our sessions. They can last longer. It’s especially useful for relationship and marriage sessions that way there is more time for everyone to get the most out of the sessions.
