Hi, I’m Maya Thompson, an Associate Marriage and Family Therapist and Associate Professional Clinical Counselor dedicated to creating an inclusive, empowering, and culturally responsive space for healing and growth. I bring a warm, grounded presence to therapy, combining somatic and trauma-informed approaches with evidence-based modalities such as EMDR, Emotionally Focused Therapy (EFT), and the Gottman Method. My approach is collaborative and client-centered—I meet clients where they are, helping them cultivate self-awareness, regulate their nervous system, strengthen communication, and move through life transitions with resilience and clarity.

Currently, I'm completing my Doctorate at USC in Mental Health Leadership, and I earned my Master of Arts in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Marriage and Family Therapy from Pepperdine University and hold a Behavioral Health Support Specialist Certificate with a focus on the LGBTQ+ population from UCLA Extension. I also received my undergraduate degree from UCLA in World Arts and Cultures, with a minor in Film Studies. My professional experience spans working with individuals and couples navigating anxiety, depression, trauma, identity exploration, and relational challenges. I specialize in supporting BIPOC and LGBTQ+ clients, using a trauma-informed, culturally sensitive, and somatically integrative lens.

Demographics of Clientele

I’ve had the privilege of supporting adults, couples, and families from a variety of cultural, spiritual, and neurodiverse backgrounds. I am especially passionate about helping clients heal attachment wounds, recover from relational trauma, and build secure, emotionally connected relationships. I also work with individuals seeking support for anxiety, life transitions, self-esteem, and the unique challenges faced by the LGBTQ+ and BIPOC communities.

What Should Clients Know About Me?

Clients often describe me as compassionate, grounded, and real. I approach therapy as a co-created journey, where healing is fostered through authenticity, connection, and intention. My work is informed by my own lived experience as the daughter of an immigrant and someone who values spirituality, creativity, and cultural nuance. I draw on mindfulness, nervous system regulation, and expressive arts to help clients find their voice, reconnect with themselves, and move forward with confidence. I believe in holding a space that is safe, nonjudgmental, and empowering so that each client feels truly seen, heard, and supported.

What Is the Typical Process of Working with Me?

Therapy is a vulnerable and powerful commitment to yourself, and I honor the trust it takes to show up. I offer a complimentary 10-minute consultation to learn about your goals, answer your questions, and explore if we’re the right fit. If we decide to work together, we’ll collaboratively set treatment goals, identify areas for growth, and explore evidence-based strategies for emotional resilience, communication, and personal insight. We’ll review your progress regularly, make space for reflection, and celebrate your growth. I aim to support you with structure, compassion, and cultural humility as you navigate your healing journey at your own pace.
